Where did we go wrong?

In 12 days, there will be another March for Life in Washington, D.C. Why? How did we get to a place where good citizens have to protest the killing of the unborn?

When I went to school, we were never taught that having an abortion was a sin because at that time, it was illegal. Unknown to me, forces were working to get this gruesome act made legal in the name of women's health.

How did we get here?

I remember a time when most every Christian attended services on Sunday. Divorce was rare in my world. Fathers were an important part of the family. People listened to their clergy.

Why do so many people not attend church and/or not believe in God? Why do they not fear going to hell? How did we lose them and how can we get them back?

First of all, I think that the Catholic Church is not getting the message out there. Why is there no broadcast Catholic radio in the NYC market? How can we laity learn how to evangelize better? How do we counter entities such as the ACLU which is trying to remove all mentions of religion from the public square? Why do we not fight more?

I do not have all the answers. I try to live my life as a good Catholic and set an example. I believe that the Catholic Church in America has to be more pro-active and maybe shock people a bit into realizing that there is a heaven and a hell. Maybe that is it; people do not believe there is a hell so do not care about God.

Why did so many people convert when Peter preached on the first Pentecost Sunday? Did people convert because of the miracles? Is that what we need? Think about Pope Benedict meeting with the disabled children at the seminary at Yonkers. Can you imagine what would have happened if one of those children had been cured? Are there miracles out there that are not being publicized? I know that a person being considered for sainthood needs to miracles attributed to them and that they happen. Why aren't these stories blasted all over the media?

It is imperative that we work harder to save souls. I urge our religious leaders to do more to get the message out there.
