On Thursday night, I did my dusting and vacuuming intending to finish cleaning today. Between Thursday night and this morning, I ate two meals at home. As I was about to Swiffer the kitchen, I noticed that underneath the table it looked as though I hadn't cleaned for about a month! Where do these crumbs come from? I don't even eat food that makes crumbs for breakfast.
I can only imagine it is the garden gnomes sneaking in when I not home or asleep.

Just Another Monday

Today is Memorial Day which used to be called Decoration Day because on this day the graves of the dead from the Civil War were decorated and cleaned up. Now it is for all those who gave their lives in the service of our country. Pretty serious stuff, don't you think?
I try to observe Memorial Day in a thoughtful way and today is the first time in years in which I did not participate in the services held in Edgewater. That is not to say that I did not meditate on the lost men and women.
Earlier today, I decided to get out of the apartment for a while. I took a ride and passed many shopping malls. They were quite full. I heard people doing construction work today. It was just another Monday; nothing special about it at all.
How many others went away for the week-end? Just another excuse to party, right? Isn't it great that we have all these extra days on which to get drunk? What's the next one? Oh yeah, the 4th of July. It's on a Saturday this year but most companies will give us the 3rd. Cool! Will anyone think of Washington, Franklin, Adams, etc? I know! I know! Samuel Adams is a beer. Who's the funny looking dude on the label? He sort of looks like the Quaker Oats guy.
And then we wonder why the country is in the shape it's in.
I've been praying this prayer by Archbishop Carroll. You might consider it.

The Big Crash
I just wanted to let all my fans know that my personal PC crashed on Monday night. It is 5 months old and is an HP. Meanwhile, the Gateway which the HP replaced never gave me a moment's trouble even at the ancient age of 8 years.
From now on, I am against the euthanasia of old PC's. I think we should let them live until the end of their natural lives.
In any event, the tech is coming on Monday and I hope that he is able to get me back up and running.
Stay tuned.

Choosing Death
I recently watched a presentation on satanism in rock music. This led to me wonder why someone would choose satan over Jesus Christ. Why would you choose the darkness rather than the Light? What does satan promise to people than is better than everlasting life?
If a person believes that the devil exists, does he not think that God exists? Do they think that there is only the evil one and nothing else? Is it their belief that there is no life after death and they really won't have to give anything to the king of lies? Or maybe they believe the first lie that they can become like God?
I am truly perplexed by this. If there is anyone out there who can explain this to me, please do.

Hair Rules

The worse the weather is, the better your hair will come out that day. Then it will be destroyed by the hat you need to wear or the rain and/or the humidity.
The day before your hair appointment, your hair will come out great and you will think, "Hm, should I cancel?". Never cancel because then your hair will look horrendous until you get it done.
Be prepared for rain the day of your appointment. I don't care if there isn't a cloud in the sky. I went one time on such a day. It was warm so I didn't even have a jacket. As I was sitting there, I watched the storm coming and the deluge begin. Fortunately, it passed and the sun came out but you never know!

Set In Our Ways
I always remember that people (especially women) would refer to old bachelors as “set in their ways” meaning “don’t even think about their marriage eligibility” but in recent years I haven’t heard this expression much. However, in the past couple of weeks this expression has been resurrected. That set me to thinking, “Am I set in my ways?”.
I have come to the conclusion that I probably have certain habits that I won’t change but I can also be flexible. I did a little research and found an article by the “Dating Goddess” (whoever she is) which discusses this topic as regards midlife daters. I think I might fall into this category, sort of.
"It might be an unwillingness to try a new cuisine, refusal to travel abroad, or opposition to watching a different movie genre. It could be habits that won’t budge: not allowing anyone else to sit in his TV-room chair, rejecting invitations to go out on favorite TV nights, or not wanting to try any new activities.
"Some midlife daters seem to want to date only on their own terms: with a specific type of person, on only certain nights per week, for only so many hours, doing activities with which he is already comfortable. The concept of dating really means having a companion when he wants her to accompany him on what he wants to do and when he wants to do it. (Although I am using the male pronoun, we all know women who fit this description.)"
Using this as a guide, I have to say that I really don’t object to giving up my favorite place on the couch and I certainly can say that, in recent months, I have changed my social habits completely around. Last year, I was loathe to miss even one minute of a Met game but now I miss them on a regular basis because I have discovered better things to do.
I still like to try new things and learn and think and have my opinions challenged. I want to keep growing as a person. However, at this stage of my life, there are certain things I have tried and do not care for (sushi, yuck) but at least I tried them once. But I’m surely not ready for the rocking chair on the porch.
