Today's Met Game Saga

You know when you get a feeling about something and you know you just have to do it. I had that feeling about today's game. I knew I just had to go.

After arriving at Citi Field and parking the car, I was walking towards the stadium when I saw a horrible sight. A car had a Go Flyers flag hanging from its antenna. Unfortunately, I did not have my ice pick with me. (Just kidding! I would never do that.) Instead of wearing my usual pink Jose Reyes shirt, I had worn my "I Like Ike" shirt and hoped these two things would not jinx the Mets.

I entered the stadium and got my cool Mets bag and did the usual stuff. Went in the Met store and walked around the Field Level concourse. At the Verizon store, there was a long line and a sign saying that there was a Met signing autographs. Turned out to be Darryl Strawberry. I didn't feel like waiting in line, so I just kept going.

Eventually, I found my seat on the first base side and it was decent. There was a nice mother and children on my left and later on, a young couple arrived with their 8 month old baby Liam. It was his first Met game and he was just adorable.

After the 3rd inning, I decided to get something to eat and wanted to try Blue Smoke the barbecue stand. I got my pulled pork sandwich and found a seat. The sandwich was disgusting but that's not important. These 3 fellows were sitting there and I noticed that the one guy had had a sandwich also. We started chatting about the lousy sandwiches and one thing led to another. He said he was from South Jersey but grew up in Bergenfield. Turned out he knew the Heaney's from Edgewater. He said, "Do you know John?" and I replied yes and that I had run into him the last time I was at the game. This guy says, "I was there too!" and then I remembered meeting him! Can we all sing a chorus of "It's a Small World".

Okay, I know this is getting long but the best is yet to come. I was so happy that wearing my Ike shirt led him to get 4 hits today but there is more.

I forget what inning it was but a cameraman came by our section in the Promenade. Yes! They actually found the promenade. Then, this woman is standing in front of us a couple of rows down and she is saying, "Look at me!" and this other woman is passing down T-shirts. She says that this guy Mark won a Verizon contest and our row only was getting T-shirts. Autographed T-shirts signed by none other than Darryl Strawberry.

Yes, the Mets won and it was probably one of the best times I have ever had at a Met game.
