About a year ago, I saw a feature on "Mets Weekly" about a website called www.theropolitans.com run by a young man from New Jersey. I checked it out and discovered that he ran chats during Met games. I immediately started going to chats and getting to know some really nice people.
Several months ago, I also started using Twitter. Thanks to something called #FF (Follow Friday), I discovered many other Met fans. Now, during games we chat and tweet. And several of us have become friends on Facebook. A few weeks ago I even had the opportunity to meet one of my fellow Met fans at a game which was a real kick.
A relative of mine thinks I am nuts to become Facebook friends with strangers. But they are not strangers. We've gotten to be real virtual friends thanks to the magic of the internet. One young lady actually has a film company called "Orange Duck Productions" and she is quite talented. She is a big David Wright fan and I was thrilled to be able to send her a David Wright giveaway I got at a game.
I do feel as though we are a fraternity: a fraternity of Met fans. We joke, we laugh, we cry at the foibles or our beloved Metsies. We are far flung (from Italy to San Francisco) and diverse. But whatever our differences (age, race, religion, political views), we all come together to cheer our team.
Let's Go Mets!
