As a long suffering fan of the New York Mets, I often wonder what it would be like to be a fan of the Yankees. What must it be like to know that there is a very good chance that your team will be in the offseason and probably win the World Series every season?
But I also wonder if it is it boring to win all the time. You know, if we had secular Christmas every week, wouldn't the luster wear off? You'd have that tree up all the time and just how much caroling could you take? What is so special and magical about that?
Is that what it is like to be a Yankee fan? Where is the drama? It seems the Yankees have to manufacture drama. For example, a big story a couple of weeks ago is that no former or current Yankee attended the funeral of Bob Shepherd, their long time announcer. I think this was discussed for a week. Boring!
On the other hand, we Mets fans never know what will happen. They are in first place and die in September. They make it to the playoffs and get knocked out by a team with a worse record. They shut out the Phillies 3 games in a row and lose 4 in a row to the lowly Diamondbacks. Yes, it is frustrating to be a Mets fan but there is certainly no manufactured drama.
