This past week we have been regaled with stories of a "pastor" burning the Koran. Turns out this guy has a very small flock of 50 people with some very strange ideas.
Again, we see how dangerous it is when anyone with a bible can decide to start a "church". What are this man's qualifications? Did he attend theological school? Who knows? And why do people follow him?
I know that Protestants abhor the idea of the papal supremacy and the magisterium. It is supposed to be all personal interpretation all the time. And the result is any nut with a bible can declare that he is a pastor and he has the truth. And we can see how dangerous this is. This man started a worldwide incident.
This is why you need a final authority which we have had since St. Peter, the first pope. It keeps us on the right path. When a heresy pops up, he has the authority and the backing of centuries of teaching to squash it. In other words, just because you own a Bible, you can't change the truth to fit your personal beliefs.
