I'm Retired

No, I haven't given up the day job. However, the other day I was thinking about something which I now forget. It must have been related to an outside obligation and I thought, "I am so happy I don't have to do that". You see, for years and years, I took care of my kids and my mother, was involved in politics, sang in the choir, ran fundraisers, went to meetings at schools, etc., etc. Now I am free of all of that. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I don't have to get up and sing for 8 AM Mass. I was invited out for dinner and I don't have to cook. I am free to do whatever I want and can afford. It's such a liberating feeling.

Does that mean I'll never do any volunteer activity again? No, I just feel as though I have a choice now. You see, I am the sort of person who, when they say they will do something, they do it 100%. When I sang in the choir, I hardly ever missed a weekend. I did, however, give up many other activities to fulfill this responsibility. I like having more time to do more things and not having to plan my life around other people's schedules.

So, for now, I am "retired".
