Most of us are greatly influenced in our beliefs by our families. Thanks to my father, I can never ever root for the Yankees. I was raised Catholic and a Democrat.
However, I would urge everyone to examine their beliefs. Several years ago, a friend challenged my belief in Catholicism and I could not rebut her. As a result, I started to study my religion from an adult perspective and yes, I am still a Catholic.
But it is important to really think about what you believe and why you believe it. I know plenty of people who lean a certain way politically because generations of their family has done so. I wonder what would happen if they would objectively look at that.
And you shouldn't be afraid to challenge yourself. As I said, examining my faith made me stronger in it. However, my political beliefs changed completely when I realized what I thought was good for people is not.
So, don't be a lemming. Think for yourself. You might just get a pleasant surprise.
